Hunger Games: Katniss Everdeen (Movie/Book Hybrid)

Background: I decided that I wanted to do a version of Katniss as she is at the end of the Hunger Games because I wanted to play with FX makeup. I was a little disappointed that she doesn’t get as battered in the movie as she does in the book, so I decided to put together a costume that combined the movie version of the costume with the injuries and events of the book.

In the end, I moved the leg burn from the thigh to the calf, added blood near my ear (she goes partially deaf in the book), and cropped the jacket (because hers catches fire and burns off.) The jacket was a lot of fun to weather and tear up–it was originally fairly long, and I cut it up and burned it and used other weathering techniques on it.

The FX makeup was a blast, too. My leg looked disgusting and I thought my head wound turned out pretty well, too. I wanted to make Tracker Jacket welts, but I ran out of time. 😦

So here are some pictures. All of them are by Jimmy Burns of Angry Dog Studios.

Costume: Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games)

Here’s an amazing shot of my movie-accurate Katniss costume.

WIP: Vanes for my Hunger Games Arrows

I made all of my arrows for my Hunger Games costume, which included painstakingly applying shiny silver trims on all the vanes. Here’s a WIP picture:

I’ve got a couple of half-constructed quivers that I’m going to finish and put up on eBay in the next week or so, too.

Hunger Games Jacket

I’m making a version of Katniss from The Hunger Games that blends the movie and the book. I wanted to use the costume of the movie and the descriptions of the injuries from the book, so I needed a jacket that I could cut up to simulate the burns that Katniss gets during the games. I didn’t want to tear up my replica jacket, so I made one. It’s almost finished:
